Origin of the Sheridan name

Sheridan comes from Ó Sirideáin, "descendant of Sirideán", a personal name probably meaning "seeker". MacLysaght places the sept first in County Longford, near Granard, from where it moved into County Cavan as followers of the O'Reillys of East Breifne.
