Surname of the Day – Official Rules

No purchase necessary. A purchase does not improve your chance of being selected. Void where prohibited.

1. Sponsor

Herald Lab (heraldlab.com) ("we", "us"). Contact: info@heraldlab.com.

2. Eligibility

Open to individuals aged 18 or older at the time of entry. Void where prohibited or restricted by law. Our employees and their immediate families are not eligible.

3. How to enter

Starting October 12, 2026, we publish a "Surname of the Day" post on our Facebook Page and Instagram account (@heraldlab). To enter, comment your last name on that day's post. On Instagram, please also tag @heraldlab in your comment. Each daily post is a separate selection and entries close at 11:59 PM Pacific Time on the day the post is published. One entry per person per daily post. Optional and never required: share the post to your Story and tag @heraldlab so we can repost it. Sharing, tagging friends or following do not count as entries and do not affect selection.

4. Selection

This is not a random drawing. Each day we choose one winner from that day's eligible comments, at our sole discretion, based on the surname we judge most interesting to research and feature (for example its history, rarity or story). Our decisions are final.

5. Announcement

We announce each winner the next day in a new feed post on Facebook and Instagram that shows the winner's mini surname card and tags the winner, and we add a short comment on the original post linking to the announcement. We may also send the winner a direct message. If the winner does not respond within 7 days, we may select another entrant.

6. Prize

One free digital mini surname card: a short origin note about the surname plus a coat of arms image. The note is a general overview of the surname; a deeper history is researched in our full surname pack, once the family's country of origin is known. Where no historical coat of arms is recorded for a surname, the image is a new design and is described as such. The prize has no cash value, is not transferable and cannot be exchanged. Approximate retail value: $0.

7. Release of Meta

This promotion is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with, Meta Platforms, Inc., Facebook or Instagram. By entering, you release Meta, Facebook and Instagram from any and all liability in connection with this promotion. Questions go to us, not to Meta.

8. Publicity and content

By entering, you agree that, if selected, we may display your surname, your public username/handle and your mini card in the announcement post and on our social channels and website, without further compensation, where permitted by law. Comments must be your own and respectful; we may remove entries that are offensive or violate platform rules.

9. Privacy

We only use the information you make public in your comment (your username and last name) to run this promotion and announce winners. We do not sell it. If we message a winner, any details shared are used only to deliver the prize. See our Privacy Policy at heraldlab.com/policies/privacy-policy. To ask us to remove your entry or announcement, email info@heraldlab.com.

10. General

We may modify, suspend or end the promotion at any time, with notice on this page. By entering you accept these rules and our decisions. Liability is limited to the extent permitted by law.
